Long time no blog ... as usual ... I'm hibernating for the winter. Although we are over the hump now - survived Christmas and New Year's ... even survived "Blue Monday"...
Winters are so hard - and I miss my VWLucy so much this time of year ... always thinking of what I can do when the snow melts and she's back in my driveway!
Had an awesome conversation with a customer the other day at work ... and we got talking buy local and she told me of some farms I haven't hit yet - so I'm adding them to my list - need to check the buy local map so I remember which ones.
Waterloo Region Buy Local Map
Wellington Buy Local Map
Brant County Buy Local Map
I will be picking up some new copies of the maps - and will always have them in the bus - so if you have any questions or want to go to a farm with me - let me know!!
And here's a feel good story (at least for me as this would be my dream .. much cooler than a big box store)...

Lisa's Buy Local Adventure
I've decided to learn more about what is offered to me locally. In the fair weather I will do so with my 1974 VW Campmobile. Meeting farmers and seeing where my food comes from. Also visiting local eateries and enjoying what Waterloo Region has to offer!

Supporting Buy Local Week
What did you do this week to support Buy Local Week! Both of our week day markets debuted for 2014 season so my contribution was simple!
Wednesday I headed to the Cambridge Farmer's Market (Galt) on my lunch. There weren't many vendors but I was still able to get some tomatoes, avocado, potatoes and apples! Now I know the tomatoes and avocados were not from a local garden but it still helped me for my lunches and dinners this week! I also supported the Brown Bag Lunch for the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank and bought myself a tasty lunch!
Some great vendors at this market (only outside - nothing inside the market building).
Thursday was the Preston Town Market which is near and dear to my heart. I just wish it started at 8 am so I could go there before work. Again lots of room for growth but I did get some scones, strawberries and garlic. Also picked up my daughter's favourite Garlic King spread.
Lots of other options too! Cupcakes, honey, asparagus, baked goods to name a few! Check it out!
So glad we have such great buy local options!

Victoria Day Long Weekend Supporting my Local Peeps :)
What a fun weekend that was!!! I hope you got out and enjoyed the weekend even if the weather was unseasonal at times.
We went to Open Mic at the Kiwi and that was a BLAST! Seeing familiar faces and meeting new people. Listening to our great local talent including guitar, kazoo, tambourine and bongos. I will definitely be back!!
Saturday we loaded up Lucy for an adventure and we hit the Galt market ... got some goodies including amazing Fresh Spring Rolls and then headed to my fav spot ... Barrie's Asparagus Farm!
We are SO lucky to have such great asparagus (and other amazing items) so close to home. I even bought some soap that had rhubarb and asparagus in it!
Headed to a little spot by the River and ate our lunch peacefully (under a blanket ... brrrr)... and then headed home.
After doing some bbq'ing dinner was eaten in the bus too at Riverside Park and we watched the Bus Movie on the laptop ... fun :) Even Clive came along for the ride!! He loved it! Will have to bring him more.
Lots of tweets and Facebook posts of Lucy sightings along the way and meeting people who loved Lucy. She makes everyone smile!!!!

One of my favourite farms...
So on my way to my church I pass a little farm which I absolutely adore. They have a bit of everything. A donkey, a llama (Jessie calls him Karl) ... some sheep and goats ... it's just the kind of farm I would have if I had one. It's right by GreenWay Blooming Centre on Shantz Station Road.
We got a call to do a drive by because the sheep had their babies :)
I grabbed my camera and off we went to check it out. Karl the llama is very protective of his family but I managed to get a few pics of the new babies who were running around and playing like little kids. I love seeing how adorable they are!
After reading more on GreenWay's website I've learned that the llama is in fact named Maurice and the donkey is Pepsi ... who knew! Now we can properly address them when we drive by!

Where's Lucy :)
Well Lucy and I have been getting out when we can ... getting our eggs from Keystone Farms and catching great local live music like Shy Harry and Eric Bolton.
Been plotting our adventure for buying locally ... lots to choose from!! I've decided my adventure is more than just about the farmers ... it's about all that is offered to me locally. Supporting small business and restaurants as well!
Have been doing some local buying in Guelph too. Got some awesome bus mugs from Blue Iris Studios ... who is a fellow bus enthusiast who remembers her bus when she was a kid :) She has an annual studio sale in April that is worth checking out ... but get there early - there was a line up when I arrived!
